I'm wondering about the legal issues surrounding Internet sports betting. Everything I've heard is that it's not legal to do this from the U.S. To clarify, it doesn't matter where the site is domiciled, only that I would be betting from the U.S. I'm missing something though, because I have friends who are doing this and from what I gather most professionals also go through an offshore book, and nobody ever gets in any trouble. So should I stop being a sally and set up an account, or do I need to be worried about anything? I currently still do things the "old-fashioned" way... which I realize is probably equally dangerous to be perfectly honest.
Also, of all the times I had hit your site I never noticed the part about scams and those guys who stole your work. I was so shocked at how obvious it was that I actually just laughed for a few minutes before feeling pretty disgusted about it all. But then a different thought struck me -- your headaches and legal action aside, we should be "happy" these clowns are still giving advice. It makes the market much more inefficient when a bunch of ill-informed people take the other side of our bets!
Thanks again for the site, and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the interest and the nice words.....No, you would not be breaking any laws by placing bets in foreign countries. Think about this: Suppose you and I were in Iraq and used our computer to bilk a New York bank out of $10 million dollars..... When they caught us, where do you suppose we'd be put on trial?
Right...Not in Iraq. In New York, because that's where we committed the crime.
The Thought Police in Washington can't have it both ways. If your money is in, say, Australia, and you place your bet on the Austrailian bookie's server in Australia, and he puts your winnings into your account in Australia, what bad have you possibly done to the United States? You have done nothing in the United States.....Also, if we were somehow able to bilk an Australian bookie out of $10 million by using our computers, guess whose laws we'd be breaking - the United States' or Australia's?
Right again....The Australian government would surely try to get us extradicted to Australia to stand trial because that's where we committed the crime.
You are not placing a bet on your computer; you are placing a bet in Australia on the Australian bookie's server.
I hope that helps. Good luck. - J. R.
