Monday 15. March 2010: Vålerenga - Viking
Vålerenga ended on 7th place in Tippeligaen 2009, but they looked to be in real danger for relegation for a long time, due to lots of injuries on key players, and very few good alternatives to "fill the gap".
I think they have added the right players for those positions this year, Vålerenga have impressed in their latest pre-season games, and Vålerenga can fight among the top 5 this season.
Players in:
Lars Hirschfeld (Kee) - Energie Cottbus, Germany
Frode Larsen (Kee) - Moss, Adeccoligaen
Andreas Nordvik (Def) - Rosenborg, Tippeligaen
Lars Iver Strand (Mid/Att) - Tromsø, Tippeligaen (returns from loan)
Players out:
Øyvind Bolthof (Kee) - retired
Troy Perkins (Kee) - DC United, USA
Erik Hagen (Def) - Hønefoss, Tippeligaen
Jarl Andre Storbæk (Def) - Panetolikos, Greece
Mario Martinez (Def/Mid) - Anderlecht, Belgium - loan period ended
Martin Andresen (Mid) - retired as player, now Manager for Vålerenga
Christer Jensen (Mid) - Strømmen, Adeccoligaen - loan deal for this season
Fredrik Carlsen (Mid) - Aalesund, Tippeligaen - loan deal for this season
Viking ended 10th in Tippeligaen 2009, and ended another disappointing season for one of the medal candidates every year.
In front of this season, Viking have changed their coach, Uwe Røsler is gone, former Norway International Coach, Åge Hareide is signed.
Goalkeeper Thomas Myhres contract was terminated a couple of weeks ago, but Viking have added Rune Almenning Jarstein from Rosenborg to their squad. Hes a good goalkeeper, but it will take time to get a new goalkeeper and the defense in sync.
Viking started well against teams from lower division in pre-season, but they did not impress against other Tippeliga sides like Odd Grenland, Aalesund and Start in their latest friendlies.
Players in:
Rune Almenning Jarstein (Kee) - Rosenborg, Tippeligaen
Patrik Ingelsten (Att) - Heerenveen, Netherlands
Ole Marius Aasen (Att) - Recruited from their youth squad
Erik Nevland (Att) - Fulham, England (will be added to the squad from 01.07.2010)
Players out:
Thomas Myhre (Kee) - Contract terminated, now playing for Kongsvinger, Tippeligaen
Thomas Pereira (Def) - Retired
Jone Samuelsen (Mid) - Odd Grenland, Tippeligaen
Peter Ijeh (Att) - Syrianska, Sweden
Mame Niang (Att) - Kongsvinger, Tippeligaen
Arild Østbø - Sandnes Ulf, 2.div (loan deal for the 2010 season)
Vålerenga looks stronger than in the 2009 season, and their latest pre-season games have been convincing.
This game will be played on natural grass, and the pitch can turn into muddy condition. Vålerenga should actually benefit from this, as they are a team with high work rate and morale. Viking have a new coach, and optimism have returned to the Stavanger side. I still dont think they will grab any points here, as Viking did not play well away from home in 2009, and their latest pre-season games were not at top standard.
Vålerenga should take this!
Vålerenga, 7/10 stakes, odds 2.30@
Bwin.
Good luck!
